December 1, 2018

In a victory over fantastic shows like the Billie Holiday Theatre's 'Yellowman' ' and 'Antigone,' by The Classical Theatre of Harlem, N.E.C.'s 'A Soldier's Play' with Adrain Washington took home the award.

Though many expected 'Yellowman' or 'Antigone' to take home the award for best revival of a play at the 2018 Audelco Awards on the night, director Charles Weldon, Artistic Director of  The Negro Ensemble Company came out on top tied with the Billie Holiday Theatre's "The Old Settler".

At the 45th annual ceremony, held in New York City, a major part of the cast including Adrain Washington and producers accepted the award on behalf of the show, with gratitude and delight over the unexpected win.

Adrain Washington reprised the role of Peterson in the play. This role was one of the most coveted roles in the play due to the career success of the actor who originated the role.  Adrain Washington gave a stellar performance.  The entire cast was outstanding. The production received three awards on the night. All including Washington were loved by critics and theater goers alike.
